Our own CEO, Michael Nowlan, took part in a radio interview last week with long-time Marketwire partner and national broadcast personality Allyn Mark of WVSN Industry Visions. The pair chatted about Marketwire’s people, the company’s evolution into much more than just a press release distribution company, and what the recent acquisition of Sysomos means to our clients; today and in the not-too-distant future. At the recent Asian American Journalists Association conference held in Los Angeles, I mixed and mingled with member of the media at the Marketwire booth. Not to toot our own horn, but it was an exhibit-hall-hotspot, and on more than one occasion I heard, “This is the booth I was telling you about!”
Last month, Charlene Li, acclaimed co-author Groundswell and founder of Altimeter Group, hosted a webinar for the members of the Society for New Communications Research (SNCR), discussing the concept of “open leadership,” which is also the topic of her new book, Open Leadership: How Social Technology Can Transform How You Lead.

The velocity of this shift has often left communication professionals feeling confused, uncomfortable, and unsure of what to do: scrambling to figure out how social media fits in overall communication strategies, how to utilize it to our advantage, and how to measure its impact. With so much and so fast, there’s a worry, too, of missing something big.
During the recent mesh10 conference in Toronto, I interviewed Jason Fry, former columnist of The Wall Street Journal Online. As a panelist of the session “How Do Platforms Change Content Consumption?” he and three others discussed the onus put on new high-tech devices to save traditional media and convince the public to pay for content. Afterward, we focused on journalism as it stands today.
